Introducing Jake… our newest Learning for Life Ambassador!
Meet Jake
Jake is 19 and recently started full time residential college following a dual pathway in Retail and Performing Arts. This means he is living more independently and has more control and choice over how he spends his time.
Jake says he “loves working in the Garden Centre Shop and spending time talking to his friends”. He likes going to the Student Union and is working towards the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. He makes his own breakfast and looks after his room, changing his sheets, cleaning and shopping each week.
How has Jake been involved with the Learning for Life?
Jake has been involved with Learn and Thrive since appearing in the first Learning For Life videos. Jake really enjoys acting and found filming the Emotions videos fun and showing different emotions was a new challenge for him as an actor.
What has the Learning for Life project meant for Jake?
Jake has found using the Learning for Life programme really helpful as a teenager.
Navigating adolescence isn’t always easy, and having things laid out visually and so clearly explained has been valuable. There are so many complicated social rules as you grow up and it is easy to make mistakes that could even get you into trouble. Friendships are incredibly important to Jake. Learning for Life is helping guide him in some of the more subtle areas of becoming an adult, enabling him to form meaningful, lasting friendships, whilst keeping himself safe.
What does Jake hope for the future?
Jake hopes to live with friends, with a little bit of support when he leaves college, and to work in a shop where he can help people and have good fun.
